Bauchi Police Uncover Four-Man Gang Targeting Customers

Bauchi State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its efforts to curb crime in the state with the arrest of a four-man syndicate specializing in targeting bank customers across Bauchi, Borno, and Kano States.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspects were apprehended on January 28, 2025, following a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public.

The suspects, identified as Mustapha Bukar, 42, from Maiduguri, Borno State; Mustapha Abubakar, 47, from Kano, Kano State; and Habibu Abubakar Tijjani, 30, also from Kano, Kano State, confessed to using locally fabricated master keys to gain unauthorized access to their victims' vehicles and properties.

The police recovered three locally fabricated master keys, two Toyota Honda saloon vehicles, and other exhibits from the suspects. The syndicate's modus operandi involved monitoring bank customers who withdraw substantial amounts of money, trailing them to their destinations, and using the fabricated keys to unlock their vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, commended the operatives for their diligence and dedication, and urged residents to exercise vigilance when departing from banks.

He advised the public to avoid parking in isolated areas, refrain from carrying large sums of money in public, and report any suspicious activities near banks, financial institutions, or residential areas to the police promptly.

The police have urged anyone with information about the syndicate's activities or the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect to contact them using the following numbers: 07068235368, 08034844393, 08151849417, 09053872273.
