Northern PDP Minority Consultative Youth Forum Commends Governors Fintiri, Mohammed for Promoting Inclusivity Traditional Institutions

From:: Lydia Zakka

The Northern PDP Minority Consultative Youth Forum has expressed its heartfelt appreciation for the efforts and foresight of Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. The group commended the two governors for their unwavering support in ensuring that minority tribes in Northern Nigeria receive their rightful place in the governmental structure by creating chiefdoms and strengthening traditional leadership institutions.

In a statement made to the press by the group’s leader, Mr. Jalo Enock, the Forum acknowledged the significance of this initiative, which has brought much-needed recognition and respect to historically marginalized minority communities. Mr. Enock highlighted that the creation of new chiefdoms in Adamawa and Bauchi States represents a major step toward promoting inclusivity and cultural diversity within the governance framework of the two states.

“The presentation of Staff of Office to the newly created chiefdoms by Governor Fintiri in Adamawa State, with the esteemed presence of Governor Bala Mohammed, is a commendable milestone,” Mr. Enock stated. “This marks a pivotal moment in the history of Northern Nigeria, where minority tribes are beginning to occupy their rightful place in the governance structure. This is a significant achievement not just for the people of Adamawa and Bauchi, but for all minority communities across the nation.”

Mr. Enock further emphasized that the creation of these chiefdoms is vital for strengthening traditional leadership and institutions, which play a critical role in maintaining peace, order, and social cohesion within communities. He added that the move would also empower traditional rulers to work alongside government officials in addressing local issues, ensuring a more balanced approach to governance.

A Bold Step Towards Inclusivity

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s initiative in Adamawa State and Governor Bala Mohammed’s support for the project have been hailed as bold steps towards fostering unity and inclusivity in the region. Despite facing considerable challenges and opposition from various quarters, both governors have remained steadfast in their commitment to ensuring that every ethnic group, regardless of size or power, has a voice in the governance process.

The Forum expressed its unwavering support for the two governors, praising their courage in the face of what they described as attempts to undermine the process. “Despite the intimidation and challenges that these governors have faced, they have shown immense courage in their quest to promote inclusivity, equity, and unity within their states,” Mr. Enock continued. “This is a vision that transcends politics, one that is rooted in the principles of fairness and national cohesion. It is a move that should be applauded by all, irrespective of religion or tribe.”

The Forum's message of support was clear: such steps are vital for the growth and unity of the country as a whole. “Governors Fintiri and Mohammed are setting an example that other leaders should follow. Their actions resonate beyond their states, and they contribute to the broader goal of building a more unified and inclusive Nigeria,” Mr. Enock concluded.

Implications for National Unity and Cohesion

The establishment of new chiefdoms and the elevation of traditional leaders carry profound implications for the overall political and social landscape in Nigeria. This progressive move is a testament to the idea that all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, such actions are instrumental in strengthening the fabric of national unity and cohesion.

In the context of the minority communities, these chiefdoms serve as a platform for ensuring that their interests are represented, allowing them to take part in the political process more effectively. It also provides an opportunity for marginalized groups to contribute to the decision-making processes at local and state levels, fostering a deeper sense of belonging and participation in the nation’s democratic system.

The inclusion of minority tribes through the establishment of chiefdoms is also a strategic move for preserving the rich cultural heritage of these groups. Traditional leaders often serve as custodians of cultural norms and values, and empowering them can go a long way in preserving and promoting indigenous practices, languages, and traditions.

Moreover, this initiative supports a more decentralized form of governance, where local issues are addressed by leaders who have a deep understanding of the unique needs of their communities. By reinforcing traditional institutions, Governors Fintiri and Mohammed have created a structure that enables more responsive, localized leadership that can better address the concerns of the people.

A Call for Wider Adoption of the Model

The Northern PDP Minority Consultative Youth Forum is now calling on other state governments to emulate the example set by Governors Fintiri and Mohammed. As Nigeria continues to face challenges related to ethnic tensions and regional inequalities, the creation of chiefdoms and the inclusion of minority communities in the governance process can provide a critical pathway toward sustainable peace and stability.

“The success of this initiative should be a beacon for other governors across the country to follow suit,” Mr. Enock stated. “The work that has been done in Adamawa and Bauchi is only the beginning. It is time for other states, particularly those with large minority populations, to consider similar actions in the interest of national unity.”

The Forum also called on the Federal Government to lend its support to the effort, recognizing the role that local traditional institutions can play in bridging gaps between diverse groups and fostering greater harmony. By facilitating the creation of more chiefdoms and strengthening traditional leadership, Nigeria can take meaningful steps towards inclusivity and social justice.

However, The actions of Governors Ahmadu Fintiri and Bala Mohammed are a significant step forward in the quest for inclusivity, unity, and equity in Nigeria’s governance system. Their efforts to empower minority tribes through the creation of chiefdoms are a reflection of a broader vision to strengthen the democratic process and foster national cohesion. As these governors continue to champion the cause of equity for all Nigerians, it is hoped that their example will inspire others to follow suit, ensuring that all voices are heard and represented in the political landscape.

The Northern PDP Minority Consultative Youth Forum remains steadfast in its support for these progressive actions and calls for continued collaboration between state and federal governments to build a more united, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.
