The Bauchi State Chapter of the PDP Volunteers Forum has criticized Senator Abdul Ningi for distributing mobile phones to youths as part of his campaign efforts, calling it a shallow move aimed at safeguarding his public image ahead of his gubernatorial aspirations for the 2027 elections.
Speaking to newsmen in Bauchi, the group's spokesman, Hassan Lanzai, described the initiative as "shameful," questioning the senator’s priorities. Lanzai stated that at this critical time, the people of Bauchi need more substantial forms of empowerment, such as job opportunities, financial support, and educational resources, rather than symbolic gestures like mobile phones.
“This is not what the youth need right now,” Lanzai said. “We need job slots, financial empowerment, educational support, not mobile phones. Giving out phones is a way to distract from the real issues affecting the people, and it does not address the root causes of unemployment and underdevelopment in the state.”
Lanzai emphasized that Senator Ningi, who is eyeing the governorship position in 2027, should focus on creating meaningful opportunities for the people of Bauchi rather than using mobile phones as a tool for image protection.
Furthermore, the PDP Volunteers Forum called on its members to remain vigilant and support leaders who have genuine concerns for the wellbeing of the people, rather than those who, in their view, are more interested in amassing wealth and preparing for political contests without addressing the real needs of the electorate.
“We urge our members to steer clear of supporting individuals who are only interested in their own selfish gains. Let us back leaders who are genuinely invested in improving the lives of the people of Bauchi State,” Lanzai said.
The forum’s statements add to growing concerns over political strategies that appear to offer superficial solutions to deep-rooted socioeconomic issues, with an increasing call for more accountability and transparency from elected officials and those seeking office in 2027.
As the gubernatorial race heats up, the PDP Volunteers Forum has reaffirmed its commitment to backing candidates who demonstrate a true commitment to development and the future of Bauchi State.
