Police Neutralize 9 Terrorists, Recover 23 Arms In Recent Operations


The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant milestones in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping across the country. Recent operations in Kebbi and Imo states have resulted in the neutralization of nine terrorists, the rescue of a kidnapped victim, and the recovery of 23 arms and assorted ammunition.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Kebbi State Police Command recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping when operatives trailed and engaged a group of kidnappers in a fierce gun duel at Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis of the state.

The operation, which was carried out on February 14, 2025, resulted in the rescue of a 60-year-old victim, Umaru Bawa, who was kidnapped from Gobiraje Village in Suru Local Government Area of the state. Four of the kidnappers were neutralized, while one was arrested with fatal injuries. The operatives also recovered the sum of N3 million, which was paid as ransom to the kidnappers.

In a related development, the Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out a tactical operation targeting an IPOB/ESN terrorist camp located in Ezioha Mbaitolu within the Umuele Umuaka Njaba Local Government Area of the state. The operation, which was carried out on February 8, 2025, resulted in the neutralization of two ESN kingpins and the recovery of seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of live ammunition.

A follow-up operation was carried out on February 9, 2025, at the Nkwukwo Forest in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, where operatives intercepted a group of terrorists who opened fire upon sighting the police. During the ensuing exchange, three terrorist kingpins were neutralized, and two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, one cutlass, four motorcycles, and various criminal charms were recovered.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the bravery and gallantry of the operatives involved in the operations. He emphasized the need for continued vigilance and cooperation from the public in the fight against crime and criminality.

The Police Force has assured the public that these operations will continue with renewed vigor, as it strives to ensure a safer environment for all Nigerians. The IGP has called for increased intelligence gathering, community engagement, and prompt reporting of suspicious activities by citizens.
