Atiku Abubakar Denies Alleged Defection to SDP, Calls It a Hoax

From: Joy Musa

In a strong rebuttal to a recent online report, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied claims that he is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The article, attributed to an anonymous writer known as Flexible Queen, sparked widespread attention after circulating on the X (formerly Twitter) platform.

However, Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson has unequivocally dismissed the report as false and part of a calculated smear campaign.

According to the statement, the claim that Atiku is leaving the PDP to join the SDP is nothing more than a "hoax" and an "evil-minded conspiracy." The spokesperson described the rumors as an attempt by disgruntled individuals to tarnish the reputation of the former Vice President, who remains committed to his mission of restoring Nigeria’s lost glory through the PDP.

“The goal of the false report is to disrupt the ongoing efforts by patriotic Nigerians to reclaim power from the current administration and strengthen opposition unity. Atiku Abubakar remains a loyal member of the PDP and is focused on bringing about much-needed change in Nigeria,” the spokesperson said.

The statement further criticized the anonymous writer and their supporters, accusing them of using "decoys" to undermine the efforts of political figures like Atiku Abubakar.

It emphasized that such distractions will not deter the former Vice President from pursuing his vision for a prosperous Nigeria, one free from the "misgovernance" that has characterized the current leadership.

At the time of publication, efforts to reach Shehu Musa Gabam, National Chairman of the SDP, for a comment on the matter were unsuccessful.

Atiku Abubakar’s camp reiterated that he will continue to work within the PDP, alongside other like-minded individuals and groups, to create a viable alternative to the ruling government. The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to ignore such baseless rumors and focus on the collective goal of national restoration.

As the political landscape heats up in the lead-up to the next general elections, it is clear that Atiku Abubakar’s political future and the direction of the PDP remain subjects of keen interest and speculation. However, the former Vice President’s camp remains resolute in its denial of any defection from the party.
