The Bauchi State Government has taken a major step towards unlocking the state’s mineral resources potential with the inauguration of the newly appointed executive members of the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO).

The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Natural Resources Development’s conference hall, was led by the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Hon. Mohammed Maiwada Bello, who reiterated the state's commitment to sustainable mineral resource management.

Hon. Bello, speaking during the inauguration, emphasized that under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Government is determined to strengthen the ministry’s operations through enhanced collaboration with relevant federal agencies.

“We are committed to harnessing Bauchi State's mineral resources and driving economic growth,” Hon. Bello stated. “The inauguration of MIREMCO’s executive members is a key milestone in ensuring the protection of our environment, communities, and investments.”

He further urged the newly appointed committee members to align their actions with the ethical standards governing MIREMCO’s operations and to safeguard the interests of local communities. “It is essential that mining activities are carried out within the legal framework, ensuring transparency and accountability,” he added.

The nomination of the MIREMCO executive members was approved by Governor Bala Mohammed, as stipulated under section 19, subsections 2-7 of the Nigerian Mineral & Mining Act 2007. Their mandate includes liaising with mining communities and operators to guarantee the safety and security of the environment.

In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chairman of MIREMCO, Alh. Inuwa Bello Galoji, expressed his gratitude to Governor Mohammed and Hon. Bello for the opportunity to lead.

“We promise to work tirelessly to promote the responsible development of mineral resources in Bauchi State,” he said. “We will ensure transparency and accountability in our operations and work closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources Development to achieve the set objectives.”

The inauguration of the MIREMCO executive members is expected to invigorate the committee's efforts and accelerate the development of Bauchi State's mining sector.

The event was also attended by key stakeholders, including the Special Adviser on Solid Minerals to His Excellency, Hon. Sunusi Khalipha Rishi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Alh. Muhammad Mai Jama’a Dewu, and other staff and dignitaries.

This move by the Bauchi State Government underscores its commitment to creating a safe, secure, and sustainable mining environment that will contribute to the state's economic prosperity.
