In a move aimed at improving the quality of meals provided to students in the state’s boarding schools, the Bauchi State Ministry of Education has dissolved all existing food vendor contracts, effective immediately. The decision was announced after a crucial meeting between the Ministry and food vendors at its headquarters in Bauchi.
Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, the Honorable Commissioner for Education, disclosed the decision, highlighting the need for an overhaul of the food supply system to ensure students receive nutritious and healthier meals.
While expressing gratitude for the services rendered by the vendors over the years, Dr. Lawal underscored the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of food served in the state's schools.
“The health and well-being of our students is our top priority,” said Dr. Lawal. “This step aligns with the vision of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, to ensure every student in our boarding schools is provided with healthy and nutritious meals. We are dedicated to creating a transparent and efficient process that will guarantee high-quality food for our students.”
The decision comes as part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to create a more effective and transparent system for food distribution in schools. Dr. Lawal further explained that new applications for food supply contracts will now be accepted, but vendors must adhere to strict quality standards to be considered.
The Ministry emphasized that the dissolution of existing contracts is a necessary action to ensure students receive not only a quality education but also well-balanced meals.
Dr. Lawal reassured the public that the welfare of students remains the Ministry’s top priority, with the state government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, continuing to offer strong support for the Ministry’s initiatives.
This decision marks a significant step towards improving student welfare and ensuring that nutritional standards in schools meet the needs of the students.
