In a powerful show of unity, Chief Abiye Sekibo, a prominent Rivers State leader, expressed strong support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue backing the governor and his administration.
Chief Sekibo's remarks were delivered during the commissioning of the remodeled Borokiri Fire Service Station and newly procured firefighting vehicles in Port Harcourt, highlighting the importance of the partnership between the Rivers State Government and the Federal Government.
In his speech, Chief Sekibo emphasized the longstanding relationship between Rivers people and the central government, reaffirming that the state has consistently worked with the government at the center.
He called on President Tinubu to recognize that Governor Fubara's administration prioritizes the welfare of the people of Rivers State while also supporting the broader unity of the nation.
"The Governor has convinced the Rivers people that the place to be is with our President, and we stand with you, Mr. President," Chief Sekibo said. "The elections delivered you as our President, and they also delivered Governor Fubara as our Governor.
For the first time in 24 years, the Ijaw nation in Rivers State has the opportunity to have one of their own as Governor. We stand with him, and we have no choice but to support him."
Chief Sekibo also acknowledged the governor's remarkable leadership during difficult times. He pointed out that even when the state's funds were temporarily seized, Governor Fubara ensured that essential services were not disrupted and took a diplomatic approach to maintain harmony with the federal government. This, according to Sekibo, reflects the Governor’s commitment to the well-being of the people and the progress of Rivers State.
"The work our Governor has done in this state in the short time he has been in office shows that he truly cares for the unity of this nation and prioritizes the interests of our people," Chief Sekibo added.
The event also marked the unveiling of the newly remodeled Borokiri Fire Service Station and the addition of new firefighting vehicles, a critical initiative aimed at improving emergency services and response times within Port Harcourt and its surrounding areas.
The commissioning ceremony underscored the Governor's commitment to modernizing infrastructure and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Rivers State.
Chief Sekibo urged President Tinubu to recognize the importance of supporting Governor Fubara, describing him as an ally and urging continued collaboration between the federal and state governments.
As the state moves forward under Governor Fubara's leadership, the backing from influential figures like Chief Sekibo reinforces the commitment of Rivers people to support the administration's efforts to bring progress and prosperity to the state.
The event concluded with a call for unity, with Chief Sekibo reiterating that standing with Governor Fubara is the right decision for the people of Rivers State, and by extension, for the continued success of Nigeria as a whole.
