Governor Bala Mohammed’s ambitious vision for transforming agriculture in Bauchi State has taken a significant step forward with the launch of Irrigate Nigeria, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at modernizing irrigation technology for year-round food production.
The event, held in Gamawa, Bauchi, was made possible through the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, powered by the Rural and Humanitarian Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF), and implemented by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
Governor Bala Mohammed’s "My New Bauchi Project" manifesto had promised to revolutionize agriculture in the state, and today, that promise is being realized with the launch of this innovative irrigation scheme.
The initiative equips farmers in Bauchi with sustainable irrigation systems that will allow them to engage in uninterrupted farming, even during dry seasons. By leveraging modern technology and a forward-thinking commercial model, Irrigate Nigeria aims to significantly boost agricultural productivity in the region.
In his speech at the launch event, Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated his commitment to ensuring food security not only in Bauchi State but across the entire North East region.
He emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of the state's economy, and modernizing irrigation is key to increasing yields, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of local farmers. The Governor also stressed the importance of partnerships with both national and international stakeholders in bringing such transformative projects to life.
The Irrigate Nigeria initiative is set to be a game-changer for farmers in Bauchi, providing them with state-of-the-art irrigation technology that is both sustainable and adaptable to various agricultural needs. With the introduction of this system, farmers will have the ability to produce food consistently throughout the year, helping to stabilize food prices and reduce the region's dependence on seasonal rainfall.
Strategic partnerships between the Bauchi State Government, the federal government, and key agencies such as NASENI and RHIDF have played a critical role in bringing this vision to life. Governor Bala Mohammed’s efforts to drive agricultural innovation have set the stage for greater economic resilience and food security in the North East, a region often challenged by food scarcity and poor agricultural infrastructure.
As the Irrigate Nigeria project begins in Gamawa, it is expected to expand across Bauchi State and beyond, making significant strides toward achieving the Governor’s goal of a self-sufficient, food-secure North East Nigeria. With the promise of enhanced agricultural productivity, local farmers are poised to benefit from greater access to markets, better income, and improved quality of life.
This transformative project marks a milestone in Governor Bala Mohammed's continued pursuit of a prosperous, food-secure Bauchi State and underscores his ongoing commitment to creating sustainable solutions for agricultural development in the region. As the initiative moves forward, it holds the potential to set a model for other states in Nigeria to follow in the quest for food security and agricultural growth.
