The National Association of Christian Youths in Politics (NACOCYP), Bauchi State Chapter, has made a passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Mohammed Kauran Bauchi, to include Christian Theological Colleges in the list of beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship scheme.
The call was made in a letter sent to the governor, expressing appreciation for his inclusive leadership and notable contributions to the Christian community in the state.
The association, through its National Coordinator, Comrade Jonathan Simon Taimako, commended the governor for his support of the Christian community, including sponsoring Christians for pilgrimage to Israel and constructing road infrastructure in Christian-dominated communities.
These efforts have contributed to fostering peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and the development of Bauchi State.
However, the association raised concerns about the exclusion of Bauchi State indigenes studying in Christian Theological Colleges from receiving bursary allowances from the Bauchi State Scholarship Board.
The exclusion has remained a long-standing issue, despite efforts by Christian bodies to address the anomaly. The NACOCYP emphasized the significant financial burden this places on theological students, who often struggle with the high cost of education.
The letter urged Governor Bala Mohammed to consider the inclusion of Christian Theological Colleges in the list of beneficiaries, as this would significantly alleviate the financial burden faced by students of theology.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the governor's leadership and his ongoing efforts to promote peace and development across Bauchi State.
However, NACOCYP expressed its confidence in the governor's dedication to justice and equity, urging him to take action to correct this oversight and ensure that theological students are not left out of the scholarship program. The association assured the governor of their continued loyalty and support for his administration’s future initiatives.
The appeal has sparked widespread discussions within the Christian community in Bauchi, with many hoping the governor will act swiftly to address the concerns raised.
