Shira LG Chairman, Deputy Sacked: Council Takes Decisive Action Against Alleged Misconduct

The Legislative Council of Shira Local Government Area in Bauchi State has taken a decisive step by removing the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his Deputy, Alhaji Usman Adamu, from office. This action was taken following a thorough investigation into allegations of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, failure to perform duties, and abuse of office.

According to Council Leader Alhaji Wali Adamu, who has been appointed as the new head of the local government, the removal of the chairman and his deputy was based on the findings of an investigation committee. The committee's report, which was submitted to the council, found the chairman and his deputy guilty of the allegations made against them.

The council resolution, SLGLC 003, dated February 28, 2025, declared the offices of the chairman and vice chairman vacant. The resolution stated that the chairman and his deputy were removed from office due to their engagement in financial mismanagement, failure to perform their duties, breach of trust, and abuse of office.

Wali Adamu, accompanied by 17 legislators, submitted a letter to the clerk of the State House of Assembly, informing them of the development. This move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring accountability and good governance in the local government.

In a telephone interview, the embattled Chairman Abdullahi Beli claimed that stakeholders from the local government fabricated lies and allegations against him. He stated that no query was issued to him or his work questioned, and that he was not given the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations.

The removal of the chairman and his deputy has sparked mixed reactions from stakeholders in the local government. While some have commended the council for taking decisive action against alleged misconduct, others have expressed concern over the process and the potential implications for the local government.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the new leadership will address the challenges facing the local government and restore confidence in the administration.
