The Nigeria Shippers' Council (NSC) has met with stakeholders from the North East business community to discuss ways to boost trade and import through inland dry ports. The meeting, held in Bauchi, aimed to promote regional integration for shipping activities and explore the potential of inland dry ports in the region.
The Executive Secretary and CEO of the NSC, Dr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah, said the implementation of inland dry ports in the North East would attract import and export activities from neighboring African countries, thereby boosting the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Dr. Akutah commended the Bauchi and Borno states for their commitment to developing inland dry ports, noting that the initiative would improve trade facilitation, enhance logistics efficiency, and support job creation.
The NSC boss urged stakeholders in the North East to embrace the development and utilization of inland dry ports to boost trade and economic growth in the region. He assured that the Council would continue to support the dry port initiative as part of the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Bauchi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Mr. Mohammed Salis, revealed that the state has already achieved 70% progress in establishing its inland dry port and called for greater regional integration to drive holistic development.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to express their challenges and concerns, and the NSC pledged to provide support and guidance to encourage shipping businesses across the region.
